School Year Calendar
Our school year begins in September after Labor Day. We plan 180 days of instructional time each year, divided into four nine-week quarters. We usually follow Kanawha County Schools' calendar in relation to holidays, early out, and staff development days. At times, we dismiss early as a reward because everyone is finished with their daily goals.
As a microschool, we have much flexibility with our daily schedule. A typical week is Monday-Friday from 8am to 3pm. We take time when it is nice out to visit the park, and we go to the South Charleston Community Center twice a week from November to the end of February.
For fundraising, we visit Puppy Love Grooming where the students wash and brush dogs to earn money for our big, end-of-the-year field trips. This builds character and teaches them that there is a reward for hard work. Many of our students really enjoy this experience!
Every year, we take a week to go to Jubilee at the King James Bible Jubilee hosted by White Plains Baptist Church in Mt. Airy, NC. This trip is for 6th-12th graders or younger students when accompanied by a parent. The trip is completely funded by WPBC except for traveling expenses, which are covered by the fundraiser.
We also try to visit Camden Park in Huntington or a similar location for a fun day at the end of each year, which is also funded by the dog wash day at Puppy Love.
